Message Trace

Build a reviewable Exchange Online V2 message trace command without connecting MailOps to your tenant.

Commands are generated locally in your browser. MailOps does not execute them or connect to your Microsoft 365 tenant.

Find messages

Use sender, recipient, message ID, or status to narrow an Exchange Online message trace.

Sender

Optional SMTP address.

Recipient

Optional SMTP address.

Start date

Required. Changing the date resets Start time to 00:00.

Start time

Required. You can change this after selecting a date.

End date

Required. Changing the date resets End time to your current local time.

End time

Required. You can change this after selecting a date.

Message ID

Optional Internet Message-ID. Include angle brackets when they are part of the value.

Status

Include message detail follow-upRetrieve detailed delivery events while retaining their parent sender, recipient, subject, and message identifiers.

Result limit

Exchange Online returns up to 1,000 results by default and supports up to 5,000 per query.

MailOps preserves the entered date and time values. It does not convert them between your browser, UTC, or an Exchange session. MailOps does not currently generate continuation queries for larger result sets.

Requirements and scope

Run generated commands only after reviewing them in the context of your tenant.

Requires the ExchangeOnlineManagement module and an authenticated Exchange Online session with suitable RBAC permissions.

Message Trace is read-only. Generated commands use the current V2 cmdlets and require appropriate Exchange Online permissions.
